Now that Hull's Christmas lights have been officially switched on, the real countdown to Christmas has begun. On December 5th, Hull will be welcoming the Coca Cola truck from 1pm to 9pm. It will pull up at Queen Victoria square, where there will be music and free refreshments on offer. This brightly lit vehicle is guaranteed to spread festive cheer wherever it goes.
One of the top Hull attractions for families will be the Yuletide Family Fun event in Pearson Park on December 7th. As this is a popular festive event, and you are travelling and staying over in Hull during the festive period, be sure to arrange and book a family hotels in Hull beforehand, as they get fully booked.
The park will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the occasion, with themed fairground rides, stages for entertainment, and stalls selling craft gift items and goodies for the Christmas table. Music lovers will be very well catered for in Hull this year, as there is wealth of concerts and venues for Christmas music. To take just one of several venues, Hull City Hall, the range on offer is impressive. On December 2nd choirs from Hull primary schools will be presenting a festival of carols in the City Hall.
At the same venue on December 7th, All for One will stage a lively show. On the 11th there will be a Family Christmas concert with the Youth orchestra and choir performing that old favourite, Tubby the Tuba. Just take into consideration that Hull accommodation for families can be a nightmare to arrange last minute as place are fully booked, so ensure that accommodation is sorted beforehand.
On the 14th, the Maureen Hunter singers will be accompanied by the Hammonds Saltaire brass band, and on the 15th the East Riding Youth orchestra and Schools choir are performing. Then just before Christmas, on the 22nd, comes the Searchers Christmas show. Which of these musical events will prove most popular? It's anyone's guess, but judging from last year the All for One concert, with its upbeat choral sound is bound to be a top attraction, thanks to the success of Gareth Malone's TV series, The Choir. For a swinging Christmas party the KC stadium is hosting two events.
There is a choice of Casino Extravaganza (many dates in December) with prizes to be won and a three-course dinner, followed by a disco. Or there is a Could it be Magic party on December 5th, with a meal and table magicians, followed by a disco. Both promise to be fun nights out for the young at heart, but it looks as though the Vegas-style Casino Party is the favourite, as they have added extra dates for that one.
Christmas wouldn't be the same without a pantomime, and this year Hull Truck Theatre are putting on Little Red Riding Hood from December 2nd to January 4th. Suitable for children from four years upwards, it promises plenty of slapstick and silly jokes. The rival panto will be Jack and the Beanstalk at Hull New Theatre. It runs from Thursday December 5th to Sunday January 5th 2014.
With Christopher Biggins playing the Dame, it is bound to be a side-splitting show, which will probably prove more popular as it will appeal to all ages. So those looking to attend the best five Christmas events in Hull this year can celebrate with Coca Cola, have festive fun in the park, sing along with All for One, take a seasonal gamble at KC stadium and have a belly laugh at Biggins in the Panto.
